Car Rentals on Molokai Island in Hawaii
About the Kaunakakai, Molokai Airport (MKK)
The Kaunakakai, Molokai Airport (MKK) is the chief aerial gateway to the Molokai Island of Hawaii. Molokai Island, known as “The Friendly Isle,” is a favorite of tourists because of its breathtaking landscape, the highest sea cliffs in the world, and its rich culture steeped in Hawaiian traditions.
The air terminal facility is located on the central plateau of the isle, six miles northwest of its major population center, Kaunakaka. It is an inter-island airport with two runways. The passenger terminal is at the north of the runway intersections. Some Molokai Island car rental companies have kiosks in the terminal and a few across the public parking space outside the terminal building. Food can be bought from the airport itself.
The Friendly Isle is home to many unique species of flora and fauna which cannot be found in any other part of the world. The island is also historically significant as the home of Father Damien de Veuster, a Belgian missionary canonized (sainted) in 2009 for his work among the sufferers in the leprosy colony of Kalaupapa, a disease he eventually succumbed to.
Reserving a vehicle rental is one of the few ways to stay mobile at this location. This is because the isle has no public transport system. Airport car rental services are available right outside the terminal building. There aren’t many such services at this location, so book early and online to see the island. Renting a car is the best way to see all of Hawaii, and if you are looking for discount car rental services, a company like Hawaii Car Rentals can give you excellent offers and unmatched service.
