About the Big Island Hilo Airport (ITO)
The Big Island Hilo Airport (ITO) is one of the two major airports on the Big Island of Hawaii, the other being Kona International Airport. The Big Island is the largest island in the US, being larger than all the Hawaiian Islands put together. A unique feature of the island is the Mauna Kea Mountain. Partially submerged, the Mauna Kea is actually taller than Mount Everest, making it the tallest mountain in the world. It is also the road that takes you to the Mauna Kea Visitor’s Center.
The Hilo International Airport is very close to Hilo Bay and is located at the eastern edge of the coastal town of Hilo. The passenger terminal is at the southern end. Baggage claim as well as other transportation facilities are all located in the ground floor. There is also a visitor information booth in the arrival area that will help you with any problems you may have. Shops and eateries are located just outside the lounge area which is located on the first floor.
