Vehicle Rentals at the Kapalua West Maui Airport
The Kapalua Maui Airport (JHM) is also known as the Kapalua West Maui Airport and the Kaanapali-Lahaina airport. It’s a regional facility located in Maui on the west side. It’s almost six miles northwest of Lahaina, HI. Most flights arriving at Kapalua Maui (JHM) Airport are commercial commuters, such as Island Air flights originating from the other Hawaiian Islands. The history of Kapalua (JHM) isn’t that long. It was built in 1987 to replace the Kaanapali Airport and was named after the Kapalua Resort, located a few miles north.
Maui County now governs the Kapalua (JHM) location due to a special agreement with the state of Hawaii. This air location was formerly a privately owned facility, but under its governance by the county, any improvements and significant changes must be approved by the County first. The idea behind this agreement was to limit development to preserve the area from commercialization. There is only one runway, some supporting facilities and a couple of terminals. There are no air cargo facilities to date and flights in and out are specific to daytime operations only.
The air facility location area is approximately 50 acres. The elevation is around 256 feet above the average sea level. The one runway is 3,000 long and 100 feet wide. The location has had about 10,000 aircraft operations per year; over half of these have been from scheduled commercial aircraft, with the rest consisting of air taxi flights.
Most major national brand car rental companies service the location. For cheap rental car rates and corporate discount prices, check with Hawaii Car Rentals for some of the best deals on the Valley Isle.
There is no public transportation available at this time to this location but it can be accessed by taxi or car. Parking is available for the public; however, there are parking fees imposed.
