Avis Budget Group, Enterprise Holdings, Hertz Global Holdings doing well lately...

News 1In the past 6 months, it is being reported that major rental car brands such as the Avis Budget Group, Hertz Global Holdings (Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty), and Enterprise Holdings (Enterprise, Alamo, National), have seen an increasing trend in profitability and stock prices. Much of this upswing is due to belt tightening, good management, as well as strategic planning and acquisitions not to mention higher rental car prices due to limited supply and higher demand, especially in Hawaii.

Hawaii Car Rentals says:

News 2To get the best rates, reserve your rental as far in advance as possible, as early as you know your travel dates. Then keep checking our car rental rates to see if they have gone up or down. If they go up, you're home free. If your car choice rate has gone down, or a more preferred vehicle is available, most definately make a new reservation. Don't forget to cancel reservations you will not need. At the present time, there is no charge to change or cancel car rental reservations made through this website.

No Ride Zone: Hertz’s Acquisition of Dollar / Thrifty Means Some Rental Car Airport Locations Will Have to Close

The Hertz Corporation’s (Hertz Global Holdings, Inc., Stock symbol: HTZ) $2.3 billion purchase of the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTAG) could mean some big changes for travelers depending on which airport they’re flying into. The acquisition deal has been approved by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on the contingency that Hertz will close a combination of over 24 total Dollar and Thrifty airport locations around the United States.

Hawaii has yet to see any airport closing of either the Dollar or Thrifty car rental airport locations. But, there is a possibility these closings may be on the horizon. Thrifty Car Rental operates out of Honolulu International Airport, among other airport locations. However, Thrifty's HNL "Airport location" is not technically considered an airport location as far as the FTC is concerned because it's physical location is not on airport grounds nor is there an agent counter within the terminal. So this location will not close.

There’s no word yet which, if any, Thrifty or Dollar airport closings the state of Hawaii we'll see. Being that the acquisition recently gained final approval in November 2012, it’s likely we'll all know soon which, if any, rental vehicle locations will be closing their doors in Hawaii.

Hawaii Car Rentals says:

As soon as we know, we'll let you know which, if any, airpoirt car rental locations may or may not close and also what to do about it.
