The beautiful island of Hawaii is also known as the Big Island or Hawaii Island. Located in the north Pacific Ocean it is a lovely place to enjoy a vacation. It is known as the Big Island so that it is not confused with the name of the state. The growth in the tourism industry and the lack of the availability of public transport has increased the demand of car rentals.

Recently, the 2010 Hawaii State Legislature enacted a bill (SB2461/ HB2370) which raises the rental motor vehicle customer facility charge (CFC) from $1/day to $4.50/day. This new fee goes into effect on September 1, 2010. This bill appropriates special funds for airport rental car facility construction and improvements statewide. The State Department of Transportation assesses and collects the entire fee from the rental car companies with facilities at the state airports. So, unfortunately the car rental companies are forced to pass this fee on to the consumer. If you rent from a location other than the airport, you will not be charged this fee, thus saving $31.50/week. By doing so, you also save the 11.11% Airport Concession Fee as well.
