Whether it's an economy car or a decked out luxury car, we can provide you with options and accessories information for your driving pleasure on all islands.

Air Conditioning:

All cars, trucks and vans available to rent from Hawaii Car Rentals are equipped with air conditioning.

Automatic Transmission:

At Hawaii Car Rentals, all our cars, trucks and vans come equipped with automatic transmissions, even the 4 wheel drive Wranglers and SUV's.

GPS Navigation:

If you’re renting a car in Hawaii and don’t know the area then you’ll definitely want to consider all GPS navigation options. There are daily and weekly rates for GPS devices and most car rental locations provide these as options.

Child Safety Seats:
Child safety and booster car seats are required for children seven and younger. Families are obligated by law to use these car seats in their vehicles for both safety and legal reasons. Bring your own or reserve one with your Hawaii car rental.

What is the law regarding child safety seats in Hawaii? 
Hawaii law requires children under the age of four to ride in a child safety seat. Hawaii law requires children ages four through seven to ride in a child safety seat or a booster seat when traveling in a motor vehicle. The driver will be held responsible for compliance with the law. Violators of the law are required to attend a 4-hour class and may be assessed a fine of $100-$500 depending upon the number of offenses. When children outgrow child restraints with a harness, between 40 and 65 lbs. depending on seat weight limit, they should be restrained in a booster seat until they are big enough to fit in an adult seat belt (approximately 80 lbs. and 4’9’’ tall). Roof Racks:
There are many outdoor adventures to be had and making sure you have all the essentials is important. One essential piece of equipment for such oversized items such as such as surfboards and kayaks, is a roof rack. Please note that some vehicles have the roof rail part of a roof rack, but not the necessary crossbars. SiriusXM Satellite Radio, USB Ports for Media Devices:
Other staples to have are SiriusXM Satellite Radio and USB Ports for Media Devices. Technology is part of our daily lives and making sure you have a variety of radio stations available and a place to plug in all your media devices can make your renting experience that much better. Avis and Budget offers SiriusXM Satellite Radio at select locations. SiriusXM Satellite Radio is not available in Hawaii from Dollar, Thrifty and Enterprise. Some car models from all companies have built in USB Ports for Media Devices.

Smoke Free Fleet:
While some might not mind, many people require a smoke-free car for renting. Smoke-free rentals are the only types you can rent from the companies we represent. Those who violate the smoke free agreement will have to pay a hefty fine at the end of the rental period to fully detail the rental car to rid it of smoke odor and return it to being a fresh-smelling vehicle.

Equipment for the Disabled:

Hawaii Car Rentals strongly supports the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits discrimination against, and promotes public accessibility for, those with disabilities. All the car rental companies we represent are committed to serving the ADA and the People with Disabilities community.

For those who have disabilities or special needs, finding a rental company that is able to accommodate these individuals by providing the proper equipment is essential. The car rental companies in Hawaii most commonly provide hand controls and possibly other necessary equipment at no charge. Because of the nature of the equipment for people with disabilities, it is only available on certain car models. Please contact one of the car rental companies at the location you're planning on renting from to find out what size vehicle you need to rent from Hawaii Car Rentals. Once you've reserved your car, call them back to reserve this equipment.

 

Car rental companies usually require 24 to 48 hour lead time for their maintenance facility to install necessary equipment. Since these are all "install as needed" types of requests, the customer needs to reserve the rental car according to the size they need rather than the price. For example, if you book a car that is too small and the car rental company installs the hand control into that car, and when they arrive it does not work (too difficult to get in and out of, too low, etc...), you would have to wait 24 hours for them to install it into the size vehicle in which it will actually work. The customer will then be required to pay the usual rate for that more expensive vehicle.

 

Guide Dogs Will No Longer Be Subject to Hawaii Quarantine - Hawaii agreed to allow precertified, vaccinated guide dogs for persons with vision impairments immediate entrance to the State, no longer requiring them to stay in a 120-day quarantine. A guide dog owner is required to demonstrate that the dog is free of rabies through documentation of rabies vaccinations and serological testing. The owner must also have a certification of training from a recognized guide dog school.
