The Kaunakakai, Molokai Airport (MKK) is the chief aerial gateway to the Molokai Island of Hawaii. The Molokai Island, which is known as "The Friendly Isle," is a favorite of tourists because of its breathtaking landscape, featuring the highest sea cliffs in the world, as well as its rich culture steeped in Hawaiian traditions. 

The air terminal facility is located on the central plateau on the isle, six miles northwest of its major population centre, Kaunakaka. It is an inter-island airport with two runways. The passenger terminal is at the north of the runway intersections. Some Molokai Island car rental companies have their kiosks in the terminal itself and some across the public parking space outside the terminal building. Food can be bought from the terminal itself.

The Friendly Isle is home to many unique species of flora and fauna which cannot be found in any other part of the world. The island is also historically significant as the home of Father Damien de Veuster, a Belgian missionary who was canonized (sainted) in 2009 for his work among the sufferers in the leprosy colony of Kalaupapa, a disease he himself eventually succumbed to.

At this location, reserving a vehicle rental is one of the very few ways to stay mobile. This is because the isle has no public transport system. Airport car rental services are available right outside the terminal building. There aren't many such services at this location so be sure to book early and online if you plan to see the isle.
