Why do the car rental company Terms and Conditions state $27/day?

In the car rental company Terms and Conditions it states you may (or will) be charged a fee. If you call the car rental companies on the phone, most likely they will say you will be charged as much as $27/day. We apologize for this confusion. The discrepancy is because Hawaii Car Rentals is on a special Hawaii-only program that we have arranged with Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty and Enterprise. Though we have requested it, the car rental companies have not integrated our special Hawaii agreement into the Terms and Conditions you see when you make a reservation. We do not expect them to either.

Please be assured that you will NOT be charged. This bonus/waiver, along with the special rates listed on our website, are built onto our special weblinks that take you right to each car rental company reservations page. The additional driver fee waiver WILL be allowed to you simply by booking through our website. There is nothing special you need to do and you don't need any sort of coupon to get these waivers. When you get to Hawaii to pick up your car, everything will be in the computer - the special rates as well as the special waivers - and you will not be charged.

When you book through www.hawaiicarrentals.net with Thrifty and get to the "select a car" page, please be advised if you click on (see graphics below), it takes you out of the special Hawaii only corporate agreement that we have with Thrifty. It will show you a set of rates that may or may not be lower than our corporate discount rates. Because of supply and demand, on that particular day, if there is a excess of cars that Thrifty needs to get rented out, the "standard rates" might lower on their retail website than our corporate discount rates. But please be advised if you select a standard rate car, you will NOT be given any additional bonuses such as underage driver surcharge fee discount or additional driver fee waivers. You will be charged $27/day for additional drivers and if you are age 21 to 24, you will be charged the $27/day underage fee.

Thrifty Does Not Allow Double Benefits:

Like all companies, Thrifty does not allow double benefits - ie: a lower than corporate rate AND the additional driver fee waivers and underage driver surcharge fee discount. But if these bonuses are not an issue for you and the standard rate is lower than our corporate discount rate, by all means, go with the lower rate.

Corporate Rates / Standard Rates:

With Thrifty, if you inadvertently select standard rates, you will have to pay the full fee for additional drivers and the full underage driver fee if it pertains to you. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do after the fact to help you out on this. Nevertheless, in many cases, the total cost of the rental might not be a whole lot higher than if you had not selected standard rates. But that depends on how low the standard rates offered were on that particular day. Lots of times it turns out to be, as they say, "six of one, half dozen of the other."
